Primary care settings have become a gateway for many individuals with behavioral health and primary care needs. To address these needs, primary care providers integrate behavioral health care services into their practice settings. Health centers provide both mental health and substance use services. Integrating Behavioral Health and Primary Care Services 6 SMHA Directors, along with the Directors of Substance Abuse, Medicaid, and the Office of Primary Care/State Health Officer, should be convened into a State Integration Team that meets regularly to achieve the following (see the full report for a complete listing of detailed recommendations).
